What to expect

What’s happening to my baby?

As your baby is growing, its limbs are developing fingers and little legs are now visible. Its face, too, is becoming more defined and is starting to look more recognisably human with a jaw and even proto-teeth.

Your baby’s digestive system is maturing and now has intestines to go with its stomach, and the embryonic “tail” is retreating. Your growing baby is starting to become less top-heavy as it lengthens out.

What’s happening to me?

You might be feeling a little more pressure on your bowels as your uterus expands to roughly the size of a lemon or tennis ball to accommodate the rapidly growing embryo. You might also feel your abdomen firming, although the baby bump isn’t yet visible, and you can really start to notice some changes in the size of your breasts.

Mood swings may continue and morning sickness can also peak around this time. Although it’s not yet smooth sailing, the worst of the nausea should start to diminish from here.
